Manchester United v Newcastle Betting Preview

Manchester United's form up until the last international break was nothing short of scintillating. At the end of September they sat joint top of the table with their near neighbours Manchester City having won six and drawn one of their opening seven Premier League games. Since then they have won only once in the league and now finds themselves eight points adrift of Pep Guardiola's side. They cannot afford another hangover from the internationals if they are to keep pace at the top of the table but will face a Newcastle side who are tough to break down. Our preview looks ahead to the Saturday evening kick-off.

Goals at a premium

Like we earlier alluded to, Manchester United may have started this season at break neck speed scoring goals for fun but as of late they've slowed up. Romelu Lukaku's fabulous start to life in a United shirt now seems a distant memory with no goals in his last seven games. Mourinho's men have been able to retain a form of pragmatism at Old Trafford, claiming wins over Spurs and Benfica at the end of October but the performances were hardly vintage Ferugson-era and more Louis van Gaal like. By a similar token, Newcastle themselves are another side whose success so far this season has been built on solid foundations. Rafa Benitez is well renowned for his organisational skills and his side have the fifth best defensive record in the league this season. They've lost their last two outings 1-0 and a lack of a credible goal scorer could perhaps hamper their progress this season but Benitez will certainly have a very competitive side.

Is there value in an away win?

Newcastle are a rather surprisingly large price of 12/1 in places to come away from Old Trafford with all three points. Given some of the criticisms that have been cast in the direction of Mourinho's men, from the outside you could perhaps be tempted in backing a win for the away side. However when you look at the stats, it's perhaps easy to see just why Newcastle aren't favoured by the bookies. They've only won once on the road this season and that came against a Swansea side who sit second from bottom in the table. Conversely for all the flack that United and Mourinho have received as of late, their home record this season has been exemplary. They've won each of their seven games at Old Trafford in all competitions without even conceding a goal. Given Newcastle's lack of firepower, can the Toon Army really go to Manchester and cause the Red Devils too many problems?

MonsterBet's Prediction & Betting Tips

The order of the day here has to be a low-scoring Manchester United win. Jose Mourinho's side have a very good record at home this season and whilst Newcastle will make things difficult, ultimately the home side should get the job done.
