Chelsea v Manchester United Betting Preview
Written By Harvey T  | 2nd November

This one has all the making of an explosive fixture on the 5th November! Tensions between Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have been mouting with a war of words and with a level of pressure on both managers, things could come to a head at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Chelsea come in to this game on the back of a 3-0 defeat away to Roma in the Champions League and defeat would virtually end their hopes of retaining their title. United on the other hand have been criticised for their style of play as of late and will not want to lose any more ground to their cross town rivals Manchester City at the top of the table. Our preview looks ahead to the game and just where you should use your free bets.

Dare not lose

With the pressure starting to mount on both of these managers, the signs suggest that we could be in for a cagey encounter. On the back of that defeat in Italy, Chelsea will be hurting and desperate to show that they have not fallen that far adrift of the standard required at the top of the table. On the flip side however, a defeat at home to Manchester United would be disastrous. It would leave them seven points adrift of the Red Devils and potentially 12 behind leaders Manchester City. Such gaps would be almost impossible to make up over the course of the season and Conte's job would be under intense scrutiny. Given how open and defenisvely sloppy they were against Roma, it's likely that Conte will go back to basics for this game and just make his side tough to beat. His taks will be made an awful lot easier if N'Golo Kante is fit enough but should the Frenchman miss out, will he trust the axis of Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko to protect his defence adequately?

Lack of goals

Mourinho's methods in these kind of games are well documented but have drawn criticism recently. Against Liverpool he set his side up to play for the draw whilst against Spurs they kept things similarly tight before winning 1-0 thanks to a late Anthony Martial goal. The criticism in some parts has been somewhat over the top. Sure, United aren't the best side to watch when it comes to these kind games but if they can get the job done, it's a results business at the end of the day. They are likely to come to Stamford Bridge and produce a stifling performance but given how suspect Chelsea looked in Rome, should they be more adventurous? Signs are pointing towards a low-scoring game given United have the best defensive record in the Premier League and it would be very unlike Mourinho to come to Stamford Bridge for a shoot-out. Other than on the touchline with Conte potentially...

MonsterBet's Prediction & Betting Tips

There's a fair bit riding on this game but we're really struggling to see anything other than Mourinho going to Stamford Bridge and producing his usual type of display in a game of this magnitude. His United side have a fine defensive record this season and he'll make sure they're an awful lot more solid than when they were beaten 4-0 in this fixture last season. Chelsea are fragile at the moment and would probably be happy with a draw so expect a lack of goals at these two cancel each other out.
